NEWS: THE END OF DIGITALNOISE ?
July 30, 2001
As you might have noticed, there haven't been any new webcasts on digitalnoise recently. Unfortunately, there is some bad news to announce. Digitalnoise will not be producing any more new webcasts and will soon be shutting down.
Those of you who have been listening to digitalnoise for a while may remember that we started out as a small "hobby" site. In fact, the very first digitalnoise broadcasts were from the aparment of one of the digi.crew. For two years, the four of us who started it up put in our own money and our free time to bring you the underground sounds from some of the hottest clubs and parties in NYC and beyond. We always wanted to make the site bigger though and to that end, in the summer of 2000 we merged digitalnoise into what is the best "Urban Lifestyle" site on the Internet - Platform.net. Platform was fairly recently acquired by Hookt.com. The combined companies stood stronger together, but with the current unfavorable attitude of investors towards dot-coms, and especially content producing dot-coms, Hookt.com is now closing down the business. With the resources that helped power digitalnoise no longer available, we will unfortunately be doing the same thing.
It's been an incredible 3 years - well, almost three years (Aug 21, 1998 was our very first webcast). All of us - Jon, Sean, Joey and George - have enjoyed every minute of it. Our biggest regret is that we never got to make digitalnoise as "cool" as we ultimately wanted to. Being able to bring you the sounds live from some of the best artists and DJs within the house, drum'n'bass and techno genres over the years has been incredibly rewarding though. There's not a moment, or a streamed packet, that we didn't enjoy. We especially loved all the positive feedback you all gave us.
While this does look like the end, I'm still hopefully that there may be a solution for digitalnoise out there somewhere. We're actively seeking out new investors or owners for digitalnoise. In these current economic conditions it'll probably be like pulling off a miracle, but we haven't given up yet. We're open to any and all possibly solutions to keep things going. Got some spare capital to invest in a promising dot-com? Work for a company that would like to grow by offering digitalnoise content? Hit me us with an email! :)
Things won't go dark right away. The site will continue to serve the archives for the next couple of months. In fact, we're programming 2 months worth of "Daily Casts" into the site for each weekday. They'll run from 3pm EST each day to about 3am EST. It's a great way to check out past live webcasts that you might not have known about. We'll also be attempting to bring back ALL of the archives through 1998. If a new solution for digitalnoise presents itself, we'll pick up somewhere in the middle with live events again.
If you're not already on it, make sure you subscribe to the email list. Maybe, just maybe, we'll surprise you one day with an email announcing our return to live webcasts.
Thanks for letting us bring you the sounds!

- Jon McLaughlin
- Sean Mackell
